One Piece chapter 1142 is an absolute rollercoaster, because just when we thought the Elbaph arc couldn’t get any crazier, Oda throws in sleepwalking children, nightmare-fueled monsters, and a firestorm courtesy of Loki. Titled “The Thing I Fear The Most,” this chapter shifts between different battlefronts, throwing mythology, mystery, and chaos in the mix. From Loki’s destructive rampage to a chilling admission from Holy Knight Gunko, there’s a lot to unpack.

2. Spoilers of Chapter 1142 of One Piece
Over in Elbaph, things are spiraling out of control—a giant serpent attacks a school, Loki nearly burns down an ancient tree, and the Holy Knights’ twisted “game” is in full swing.
I. Jormungandr Attacks Walrus School
The chapter kicks off with a massive sea serpent, Jormungandr, launching an attack on Walrus School, sending the students into a frenzy. The sheer size and presence of this beast could have meant disaster, but thankfully, Jaguar D. Saul and Kiba, the school’s walrus-like principal, step in like absolute legends and take the snake down with ease.

Crisis averted? Not quite. Out of nowhere, some of the students begin sleepwalking toward Elbaph Island’s beach, their movements eerily synchronized, as if under some kind of spell. And as it turns out, they are—Gunko, a Holy Knight, is behind it.
II. The Holy Knights’ Sinister “Game”
As the sleepwalking students move toward the shore, Saint Killingham Rimoshifu and Saint Sommers Shepherd stand from a distance, coolly observing the chaos they helped orchestrate. Their conversation is as unsettling as it is cryptic—this is all part of some twisted game, and their deadline is when the children reach the ships.

Saul realizes something is horribly wrong and tries to wake the children, but they remain completely unresponsive. Meanwhile, Gunko watches in silence, her motives unclear.
III. Loki Strikes the Adam Tree with Ragnir
Over in the Dead Realm, the tension skyrockets. Loki—now free but still wearing Seastone ankle cuffs—stands before Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Hajrudin’s crew. Instead of begging for freedom, he smirks and tells Luffy to remove the cuffs, claiming they’re useless.

Why? Because he doesn’t even need his Devil Fruit powers to destroy Elbaph. Without another word, Loki raises his weapon, Ragnir, and slams it into the legendary Adam Tree. Instantly, a bolt of lightning crashes down from the sky, setting part of the ancient tree ablaze.
The Giants scramble to put out the fire, alarms blaring across the island. Meanwhile, Loki just watches, completely unbothered.
IV. Nightmares Come to Life
Back at Walrus Academy, things go from bad to horrifying. The children’s greatest fears start coming to life, crawling out of their own drawings. Thanks to the power of a mysterious Holy Knight, the school is now swarming with dragons, a monstrous Loki, a terrifying Black Nika, and other nightmarish creatures.

And the creepiest part? These weren’t just random drawings—the students had once been assigned by their teacher, Ange, to illustrate what they feared most. Now, those fears are walking, roaring, and very, very real.
V. Gunko’s Fear of Nika
As if things weren’t already crazy, the chapter closes with a chilling reveal. From afar, Saint Sommers Shepherd turns to Gunko and casually asks, “Do you fear anything?”

Gunko, who has been calm and calculating this whole time, doesn’t hesitate before answering: “I fear Nika.” This moment lands like a ton of bricks. Why does a Holy Knight—one of the World Government’s elite warriors—fear the Sun God Nika? Before we can get any answers, the chapter ends.
