Chapter 1039 of One Piece, titled “Top Billing,” is the latest addition to the manga.
This chapter marked the end of Big Mom’s reign of terror. After relentlessly fighting the gigantic woman, Kid and Law became an unlikely pair and defeated their opponent. This fight wasn’t easy at all since Big Mom kept coming back and fixing herself dozens of times.
Her attacks got stronger, but the duo defended themselves despite being badly injured. In the last few panels, we saw Big Mom challenging Kid and Law to use all their power against her.
Even though it’s pretty evident that she’s going to lose, does she have another trick up her sleeve? We’ll find out in the next chapter of One Piece.
1. Chapter 1040 Discussions and Predictions
When Kid and Law claimed that Big Mom’s era was over, they seriously meant it. It finally looks like Big Mom has been taken down, and the antagonists of the Wano arc are beginning to dwindle.
In the next chapter, we could see Luffy and Kaidou’s battle again and get an update on Zoro’s situation. After defeating King, we saw a grim reaper approach Zoro, indicating that his end might be near.
Zoro dying after an enormous victory doesn’t seem plausible, and I think that this might be Enma drawing too much haki out of him. If Enma accepts Zoro as its master, maybe the reaper would disappear. It looks like Zoro’s fight isn’t really over yet.
Another interesting theory arose when Law made a massive hole in the ground while fighting Big Mom. Maybe that’s where Momo can make Onigashima land safely without hurting anyone.

Above Wano, Onigashima begins moving backward as Momonosuke tries his best to not let the island fall on the city. Inside the dome, on the performance floor, Big Mom gets knocked off her feet, making Kid and Law’s subordinates rejoice.
She gets back up, this time suffering from some severe scratches. Law makes a fuss about how Kid performed his big fancy attack right after his attack to make it look like he is the winner.
He exclaims how he wasn’t his opening act, and Kid angrily replies that this isn’t important right now. The two continue bantering but stop promptly when Big Mom picks herself back up.
A shock wave from the inside cracked some of her bones, and she remarks how she needs to watch out for Law’s dangerous moves.
Fixing up her bones, she prepares to fight the duo once again. Law confesses to Kid that the next round will be his final because he won’t have any strength left after his next attack.
He says that he’s not going to miss it and asks Kid to create an opening. Before he could finish, Kid interrupted him, stating that he didn’t need any orders from him.
Big Mom uses Prometheus, Napoleon, and Hera to launch her Master Saber attack. This attack doesn’t damage the duo, but Big Mom is fiercer than usual.
She tells them how she has sunk hundreds of people like them in the sea and has reigned as an emperor for decades. Kid uses his Assign power to weigh down Big Mom’s attack, and she retaliates with her Mother’s Visit Canon.
She then continues her strikes and instigates 3,000 Leagues of Misery. This attack unleashes a strange ghoul-like persona that seems to have a conscience of its own. Law uses Takt and makes a massive structure crush Big Mom.
He then uses this opportunity to slash the woman using his sword. She struggles to get him off her, but he pierces his sword deeper, pushing her even further.
Misery, the ghoul-like creature, quickly makes her way towards Law as Big Mom commands her to finish him off. Kid swiftly uses his flintlock pistol and shoots towards Big Mom. As the final attack lands, the duo exclaims that Big Mom’s era of terror is finally over.
