One of the greatest mysteries of One Piece is the Ancient Kingdom. While we don’t know much about it yet, we definitely know that it held power great enough to threaten the World Government.
Its impact and influence terrify the government enough to issue Buster Calls like in Ohara and ban any research about it.
While it’s rare to get information on the Ancient Kingdom, One Piece manga’s chapter 1065 talks about how the nation was advanced enough to make functional robots 900 years ago.
The Straw Hats are still split-up in Vegapunk’s lab, and each group encounters a different satellite of the genius scientist.
As Zoro and Brook enjoy a warm cup of tea on the Thousand Sunny with Caribou, the others explore the lab. Nami, Sanji, Usopp, Robin, and Franky are shown around by Punk-02 Lilith as the pirates are awestruck by how technically advanced the place is.
Right when the group enters the actual lab, they are met with Jinbe Seraphim, much to their surprise and horror. While the Pacifista is much smaller than the real Jinbe, it still gives the Straw Hats a hard time with the Fish-Man Karate and other skills.
As if that wasn’t horrifying enough, Punk-03 Edison reveals that the Seraphim was still a kid and not ready or had undergone all kinds of testing.
Meanwhile, Luffy, Jinbe, Chopper, and Bonney discover a giant ancient and rusted robot that looks like a knight’s armor. As Luffy admires how great the mecha looks, Punk-01 Shaka reveals to Franky that Egghead is an island of the past rather than the future.
Franky is left speechless when Shaka reveals this and doesn’t understand what that means. However, readers can figure out that Shaka is talking about the Ancient Kingdom and how this technology is from there.
This single piece of information and the ancient robot is enough to tell us how advanced the kingdom was. It’s not just about the robot, as Shaka clearly says that the island is of the past, signifying that the Ancient Kingdom was living far into the future.
Despite this being a tiny piece of the puzzle, it still matters as this is some crucial knowledge that the World Government doesn’t want others to know.
Maybe this is the reason that the government has issued Vegapunk’s elimination. It might be that this genius scientist knows more than we think, and I can’t wait to see him spill the beans in the upcoming chapters.
