One Piece 983 SPOILERS: Is Kaido’s Son on Luffy’s Side?!

Family is a big part of One Piece. Like the Monkey family (Garp, Dragon, and Luffy), families like Big Mom’s and Roger’s make it evident that their lineage is strong, and they’re bound to be strong.

This is why when chapter 977 confirmed that Kaido has a son, it sent ripples in the One Piece community.

Raw scans of Chapter 983, titled “Thunder,” shows the character design of Kaido’s son – Yamato, for the first time. Apparently, Yamato is on Luffy’s side and “has been waiting for him this entire time.”

During the chapter, we see Luffy fighting against Ulti and Page One. While he is busy doing that, Yamato steps and knocks Ulti out with a single attack named “Thunder Bagua.”

First off, Yamato is wearing a mask. This is probably Oda’s way of keeping a critical detail hidden until he chooses to reveal it.

Yamato uses the same weapon as Kaido, a metal kanabō covered in spikes. Even the attack used by Yamato, the “Thunder Bagua,” is the same attack that Kaido uses.

Yamato runs away with Luffy while explaining to him that he isn’t an enemy. Yamato says that he has been waiting for Luffy “this entire time.” It is unclear what this means, but it’ll probably be revealed soon.

Another interesting thing to note about Yamato’s character is the shackles on his hand. We don’t know yet why they are on his hands, but it definitely stands out.
