Once Human, a free-to-play survival game, brings a familiar blend of exploration, combat, and resource gathering and has attracted a massive player base with over 100,000 concurrent players on Steam.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, players must battle mutated enemies, scavenge for supplies, and unravel the mysteries of Stardust. As they fight to stay alive, they’ll also uncover the truth behind a shattered reality, making for a thrilling and immersive experience.
The game plans to introduce a seasonal system where servers have a six-week lifespan, followed by a reset and the introduction of new servers with distinct scenarios, missions, storylines, and experiences.
This approach is designed to encourage players to explore different servers and content. Here’s all you need to know about it.
Once Human: Seasonal Server Wipe
In Once Human, developer Starry Studio plans to feature a seasonal system with a rotating server model, where servers operate for six weeks before resetting, and new servers are introduced with unique content. While characters reset to level 1 at the start of a new season, players can retain significant progress from the previous season.
Server resets can be frustrating, erasing progress and forcing players to start anew. Contrary to concerns, Starry Studios clarified in a Steam post that the upcoming server reset at the end of the initial six-week scenario would not result in a complete loss of player progress, alleviating some players’ worries about a total wipe.
According to the dev blog, “At the end of each Season, your character and their progress will be transferred to the Eternaland (currently under development). From there, you have the freedom to choose what you want to bring with you when you begin the next Season in accordance with the rules set for that particular season.”
Starry Studios has reassured players that their in-game progress will not be completely reset, stating, “We are aware that many players are concerned that their in-game progress will be reset in six weeks, but we are here to reassure you that this will NOT happen!” Instead, the studio explained that “the items and gear you have obtained from the seasonal scenario will be retained in various ways.”
What Items Will Survive The Server Wipe?
In the six-week seasonal cycle of Once Human, players will experience a server wipe, but their progress will not be entirely reset. Instead, the following items and progress will be retained:
- Currency: All forms of currency, including Starchroms, Crystgins, Mitsuko’s Marks, Stellar Planula, and Sproutlets, will be preserved.
- Gear and Customization: Gear blueprints, blueprint fragments, weapon accessories, and mods will all be carried over to the next season.
- Cosmetics and Personalization: All cosmetics, expressions, poses, name cards, and other personalization items will remain with the players.
- Housing: Saved house blueprints can be reconstructed at any time, using either advanced materials (if available) or basic materials as a substitute.
- Story Progress: Completed main story and side story progress will be retained, and players can redo streamlined versions of these tasks in the new season to earn the same rewards.
- Social Connections: The friend list will be fully preserved, and players can even add Warband members from previous seasons to their friend list.
When transitioning to a new season, certain resources will be partially carried over, subject to specific transfer rules, allowing for faster progress in the new season. These resources include materials, medicine, and ammunition.
These essential resources will be transferred to enable you to build upon your previous progress, giving you a head start in the new season.
What Items Will Be Lost During The Reset?
In the Eternaland feature, players have the freedom to build and store items without restrictions. They can transfer various items, including weapons, ammunition, materials, medicine, and gear, to Eternaland without any costs.
These items remain accessible across seasons, providing a sense of continuity. However, when a new season commences in Once Human, players can retrieve these stored items from Eternaland for a nominal in-game fee, which does not require real-world money.
This mechanic allows players to access their stored items while maintaining a sense of progression and balance within the game. However, when a new season begins in Once Human, the following progress will reset:
- Character level
- Map and stronghold discoveries
- Weapons, gear, medicines, and materials not stored in Eternaland
- Energy Link
- Seasonal Challenge progress
Thus, each new season will usher in a unique set of challenges and opportunities, with distinct objectives and gameplay mechanics designed specifically for either PvE or PvP servers.
While some progress will carry over, the reset will still require players to rebuild and adapt their strategies to succeed in the face of fresh threats and challenges.
When Will The First Seasonal Wipe Occur?
The first server wipe is expected to happen around August 20th, six weeks after the game’s launch. However, this date is tentative and may be adjusted if unexpected bugs or issues emerge.
