The story details for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hint that Oscar Isaac’s character, Miguel O’Hara, will be the multiverse leader.
Miguel O’Hara last appeared in the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In the scene, Miguel travels to the world of the 1967 Spider-Man animated series, where he recreates the iconic scene of two Spider-Men pointing at each other.
The first trailer for Across the Spider-Verse featured Miguel fighting Miles Morales, confirming his return to the film.
In the latest issue of Empire the co-writer, Phil Lord teases that Across the Spider-Verse will set up Miguel O’Hara as the multiverse leader. He will lead the team of Spider-people but might not be the kindest leader we’ve known.
Check out Lord’s story details below –
Miguel O’Hara is the leader of a band of fighters that are trying to clean up the consequences of the collider explosion at the end of the first movie. And as you can imagine, it’s really hard to lead a bunch of people who have never been led [laughs].
Miguel being the leader of the multiverse actually makes sense from a lot of perspectives. The post-credits scene of Into the Spider-Verse indicate that Miguel will travel to meet other spider people.
Perhaps, Miguel is dealing with the aftermath of the events that pushed the multiverse on the brink of breaking in Into the Spider-Verse. Miguel’s journey might also explain how Spider Gwen got his abilities to travel through the multiverse and reconnect with Miles Morales.
Earlier this year, Oscar Isaac mentioned that Miguel is going to be a “very serious Spider-Man”, and he will not be cracking jokes on screen. As a multiverse leader, Miguel will deal with a number of people who have no prior experience in a group, so it makes sense why he would want to hold onto a stern personality.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will release in theaters on June 2, 2023.
