Recently, many players exploring the Offchurch location in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla have shown their disappointment in the gameplay because of a specific gear locked behind an impenetrable door in this old crypt, making it impossible to obtain. This particular door is located at the very end of this crypt.
If you are also one of the players facing this issue, it is more than likely that you have encountered the Offchurch crypt earlier than the game’s developers intended for you to. You can only interact with the locked door during the main storyline quest, Tilting the Balance.
1. How To Get The Gear Behind The Locked Door Of Offchurch?
Accept Tilting the Balance quest, then reach the Offchurch and disable King Burgred hiding in the locked room to collect the Offchurch gear.
Upon reaching the Offchurch, you will find it packed with enemies. Use Odin’s Sight to locate the guard with a key symbol over his head at the locked front entrance of the crypt.
Take the back entrance and reach the end of the Offchurch crypt. Kill the enemy holding the key and loot it from his body. Open the locked door and disable King Burgred in a fight, then collect all the items in the room, including the gear and the Sepulcher Axe.
To reach the locked door, walk straight into the crypt from the back entrance till you arrive at the primary chamber. Turn right from here, and you will find the guard holding the key to the locked door. The guard will be standing right next to the room in which King Burgred is hiding.

Sepulcher Axe in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a Raven class, two-handed Dane Axe Weapon which can be acquired in the Offchurch crypt of Ledecestrescire.

3. How To Get Tilting The Balance Quest In AC Valhalla?
Tilting the Balance quest will be available to you during the third chapter of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, after completing The Walls of Templebrough quest. The quest starts at Tamworth Fortress, where you have to meet with Ubba Ragnarsson and Sigurd. This mission tasks you to find out the location of King Burgred, abduct him, and bring him back to Tamworth Fortress.
4. Where To Find The Offchurch Crypt In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?
Offchurch is located in the south of Ledecestrescire, where the Alne and Arwy rivers join. The crypt is northeast of the junction of the two rivers. In the image below, you can see the precise location where you have to travel.
Note that the location will not be marked on the map unless you have already discovered it once. The suggested power level of this region is merely 20, so you don’t have to worry about encountering any strong enemies.
Apart from the mighty Sepulcher Axe, there are three other valuable items in the crypt:
- Carbon Ingot
- Fyrd spear
- Nornir book of knowledge
5. Collecting Other Valuable Items In The Offchurch Crypt
- Carbon Ingot- On the left side of the main room, there is a wooden shelf. Move the rack to reveal a small space below.
Crawl through this space, and you will find a chest containing a carbon ingot.
- Fyrd Spear- Going straight ahead from the main room, up the stairs, and to the right will lead you to a small room. On the left of this room, there is a guard; defeating him will reveal space behind. This space is filled with water, dive down and open the chest below to collect the Fyrd Spear.
- Nornir Book of Knowledge- Heading downstairs into the Crypt will lead you to the main room. There is a crack covered with spider webs on the right wall.
This crack will lead you to a space where you can find the Nornir book of knowledge.
