Eustass Kid and the Kid Pirates have been one of the most prominent pirate crews of the Worst Generation. Despite being a Super Rookie and a key figure since the Sabaody Archipelago arc, Kid and his crew are still considered mysterious.
Everything we know about the Kid Pirates was either revealed to explain some incident or, on SBS, the Q&A segment in the manga’s volumes.
Following this pattern, Oda has once again dropped crucial information on Eustass Kid and the Kid Pirates in One Piece volume 104’s SBS.

Oda gets straight to the point when a fan asks him about Kid Pirates’ origins and how Heat and Wire joined them.
Kid, Killer, Heat, and Wave are from the same South Blue island, which was ruled by a gang as if they were royalty. The island wasn’t allied with the World Government and was divided into four districts.
Each district on the island had an outlaw gang of its own, and Kid, Killer, Heat, and Wire were the groups’ respective leaders. Although the groups had conflicts with each other, Kid and Killer maintained a friendship and also had a crush on the same girl, Victoria S. Doruyanaika.
One day, Victoria was killed by the gang that ruled the whole island, which enraged Kid to no extent. Kid’s anger led him to unite the four outlaw groups and overthrow the ruling gang.
Even after he enacted revenge on Victoria’s killers, Kid wasn’t satisfied and declared, ‘I don’t want to stay in a closed world like this.’ He went on to form the Kid Pirates with Killer, Heat, and Wire and named their ship ‘Victoria Punk’ in honor of their friend.
When Oda previously mentioned that Kid and Killer were childhood friends, I used to think their pirate journey had a wholesome beginning. Clearly, I was wrong.
Oda must stop dropping tragic and heartbreaking backstories like this on SBS because this could have been such a great story. I hope the mangaka someday gives us more details on the Kid Pirates but in the main storyline.
About One Piece
One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 22, 1997.
The man who had acquired everything in this world, the Pirate King, is Gol D. Roger. The final words he said at the execution tower were “My treasures? If you want it, I’ll let you have it. Look for it; I left all of it at that place.” These words sent many to the seas, chasing their dreams, headed toward the Grand Line, in search of One Piece. Thus began a new age!
Seeking to be the greatest pirate in the world, young Monkey D. Luffy also heads toward the Grand Line in search of One Piece. His diverse crew is joining him along the way, consisting of a swordsman, marksman, navigator, cook, doctor, archaeologist, and cyborg-shipwright, this will be one memorable adventure.
