NVIDIA Update May Be Adding a new DLSS Preset to the Settings

NVIDIA’s DLSS has been the talk of the town ever since its release. The Deep Learning Super Sampling technology allows for even mid-tier hardware to output great quality visuals. The company is now looking to expand the technology’s capabilities by adding a new mode to the popular upscaling tech.

Currently, DLSS offers four different presets, with each delivering a different blend of picture quality and performance. The four are,

  • Ultra Performance
  • Performance
  • Balanced
  • Quality

Now, a possible new preset may be added to this list: Ultra Quality. This new preset, which appeared in Unreal Engine 5 DLSS documentation, was first spotted by Redditor u/Reinhardovich. The new mode may offer more fidelity-focused options for those gamers who really love to pixel-peep.

As DLSS uses varying resolutions to gain a frame rate increase over native resolution, Ultra Quality may use a resolution closer to native than the other current DLSS presets.

DLSS performance is pretty good today, though occasionally games will report bugs, so gamers don’t have to sacrifice too much picture quality for the much-improved performance. But the Ultra Quality preset could offer a bit more granularity when needed, like when you need just a slight boost in performance. Hopefully, it makes an appearance with the upcoming update.

The version of DLSS available depends both on NVIDIA’s development and the game in question. Most games that support DLSS have switched to the much-improved DLSS 2.0 version, some being on version 2.1 or even 2.2.6. These would be games such as Rainbow Six Siege or Lego Builder’s Journey.

DLSS Ultra Quality may appear in version 2.2.9, which is found within the DLSS Unreal Engine 5 plugin. However, that engine is just in early access, so it’s more likely to see 2.2.9 in some other game before we see anything out of Epic’s new engine.

DLSS is now on many RTX branded graphics cards and can significantly improve the visuals in-game, so if you haven’t tried it out yet, we suggest playing around with the setting best suited for you.
