NVIDIA’s RTX 40 series is designed for intense gaming and will be using GPUs based on Ada Lovelace architecture. The series is two times faster than the RTX 30 “Ampere” series.
Twitter user @kopite7kimi revealed the power limits for the RTX 40 series powering GPUs. The highest power limit shown is 800W for the AD102 desktop GPU.
The power limits would be almost identical to the current generation GPUs. For example, the flagship AD103 mobile GPU will have a TGP of 175W as the GA103 launched in February this year.
The AD104 will also have 175W TGP, which is slightly higher than its current-gen counterpart, the GA104.
The power limit will set a specific value above which overclocking will not be permitted. The TDP of an SKU should ideally be lower; hence the given power limits may not apply to the TDP of the RTX 40 variants. In the end, the decision solely depends on the manual overclocking performance.
However, it is still unknown if NVIDIA will use the PCIe Gen5 connector to power the RTX 40 cards.
Here are the rumored specs for the RTX 40 series GPUs:
CUDA-Cores | Memory Bus Width | Power Limit (Desktops) | Power Limit (Mobile)
AD102 | 18432 | 384-bit | 800W
AD103 | 10752 | 256-bit | 450W | 175W |
AD104 | 7680 | 192-bit | 400W | 175W |
AD106 | 4608 | 128-bit | 260W | 140W |
AD107 | 3072 | 128-bit |
The RTX 40 series cards are expected to launch sometime in Q4 of 2022.
