NVIDIA’s Mainstream GeForce RTX 40-series graphics cards are about to arrive soon, depending on the particular model. RTX 4060, in particular, although arriving next year, hasn’t seen many leaks surrounding it.
An earlier leak hinted at the power consumption of around 220W for this entry-level card. And it seems that a new leak has appeared, which marks the first rumored performance claims for RTX 4060.
According to @QbitLeaks, NVIDIA RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti have been tested in 3DMark Time Spy Extreme. The base RTX 4060 racks up 6000 points, averaging a 2700 MHz clock while consuming ~230-240W. RTX4060 Ti scores 8600 points at a 2600 MHz clock, drawing around 270-280W power.
Let’s talk about the non-Ti version first. The 6000 score is around 50% better than the predecessor RTX 3060, which is a lot, but the power consumption increases from 170W to 230-240W. Although even faster than RTX 3060 Ti, this is too much power for an entry-level GPU.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 will utilize the AD106 GPU core with 3968 FP32 cores or 31 SMs on the AD106-300 die. The graphics card is expected to rock 8 GB GDDR6 memory across a 128-bit bus interface, running at 17 Gbps for 272 GB/s of bandwidth.
RTX 4060 Ti gives around 43% better score than its predecessor, making it even faster than RTX 3070 Ti and around the same ballpark as RTX 3080 Ti. However, even here, the graphics card consumes a lot more power as the power rating goes from 200W to 270-280W.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is said to utilize the AD104-180-A1 GPU core with 6144 FP32 cores or 48 SMs. The graphics card is said to feature 10 GB of GDDR6 memory across a 160-bit bus interface and is expected to clock in at 17.5 Gbps for a total of 350 GB/s bandwidth.
It can clearly be seen that even though the Ada Lovelace cards are giving impressive performance results, they are just too power-hungry. However, we could still see some changes as the launches are still far away, plus this won’t directly translate to gaming performances.
NVIDIA RTX 4060 launches in January 2023, while the Ti version will launch even later.
