Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Release Date Announced: Launching Soon

So far, 2021 is not a year for those looking to upgrade GPUs. Even with a global shortage, Nvidia is all set to release the new RTX 3080 Ti.

There has been no official word from Nvidia yet, but the company is all set to release the next GPU in the 3000 series, the RTX 3080 Ti, on May 25th. Costing $999, the review embargoes on the new Ti GPU will also be lifted a day before.

The news comes at a time when people are struggling to get their hands on any kind of GPU hardware due to a shortage caused by cryptocurrency mining and a shortfall in silicon-based chips. One would expect that the company would first get a handle on its current production goals instead of rushing out a newer model, but it is what it is.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is based on the newer GA102-225 GPU model with 10240 CUDA cores and 12GB GDDR6X memory, which is more than the 10 GB on the RTX 3080 but almost half of what the RTX 3090 offers.

Earlier, there were rumors that the 3080 Ti will feature 20GB of GDDR6X memory, but that does not look like the case. Even though the rest of the hardware is still a step up from the 3080, just a 2GB memory bump would be worrying to buyers compared to the initially planned VRAM.

On the other hand, the RTX 3070 Ti has also gone under hardware changes to be more competitive in the current market. IT is speculated to feature 8GB memory coupled with 6,144 CUDA cores which will put it ahead of its base variant, the 3070. Currently, the 3070 Ti does not have any proposed released date, but we can expect it at the end of Q2.

All in all, it is not the right time to build a PC as hardware prices are through the roof. With the ongoing pandemic, the demand has risen significantly, but the supply is at an all-time low. The surge in mining and drop in chip manufacturing are significant factors contributing to the production drop.

There has been a lot of talk about mining limiters that would drop the surge in GPU hoarding by cryptocurrency firms, but only time will tell how effective that is going to be. For Nvidia, it would mean that the newer model would also be snatched up fast as buyers are ready to get whatever they can lay their hands on.
