NVIDIA has finally made its RTX 4070 graphics card official, after weeks of leaked information. The card is based on a cut down AD104 GPU, and it features fewer CUDA cores compared to the RTX 4070 Ti, but the memory subsystem is unchanged.
NVIDIA has launched its first RTX 4070 model in the market at a starting price of $599. The RTX 4070 card is NVIDIA’s first 40-series Founder’s Edition card. The RTX 4070 supports 1440p gaming at more than 100FPS, with ray-tracing and the latest DLSS 3 upscaling tech.
The size of the RTX 4070 card is actually smaller than an RTX 3080 so it can fit inside most cases. The RTX 4070 is equipped with 12GB of GDDR6X instead of the 8GB which was featured both on RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 Ti models.
NVIDIA stated that the RTX 4070 GPU will run up to 1.7x faster than the RTX 3070 Ti due to DLSS 3. This upscaling tech is only supported by RTX 40 “Ada” GPUs for now. In addition to that, NVIDIA also claimed that RTX 4070 should be as fast as RTX 3080 in gaming, which was later confirmed by press reviews.
The RTX 4070 is overall an all-rounder card that can easily compete with and rival the RTX 3080 at 1440p. It does fall a little flat at 4k but it’s still manageable. The RTX 4070 is still a bit quicker than the 3070.
The only downside is, it’s more expensive than the RTX 3070 was at launch, and $599 is a pretty hefty amount for an essentially mid-range graphics card. But it’s still the most attractive RTX 40-series card and if you’re thinking of upgrading your card from RTX 3070 or below, think no longer.
You can now purchase the RTX 4070 from popular retailers like Amazon, MicroCenter, BestBuy etc.
