Nvidia & AMD’s Market Share Rises Despite Fall in Q1 2022 Shipments

Life isn’t doing favors to anyone who’s looking to buy a new Nvidia or AMD graphic card, as the chip shortages are expected to last till 2024. But even in the middle of this dry spell, Nvidia and AMD are flourishing by gaining market share in terms of capitalization despite a 19% fall in the GPU market in contrast to last year.

The current developments around the world have contributed to the market plummeting by 6.2% compared to Q4 2021 and witnessing an overall fall of 19% year over year.

This figure is shockingly lower than the annual growth rate of 6.3% forecasted between 2022 and 2026 because the growth rate estimate incorporates an installed base of 3.3 million units and 46% market penetration of discrete graphics.

PC GPU Vendor Market Share

Talking about vendor market share, Nvidia took the cake by achieving a 1.69% increase in market share and acquiring 21% of the total stake. On the other hand, AMD has hold over 19% of the total market, thanks to an enhancement of 0.7%.

Unfortunately, Intel cannot boast about such a surge as their GPUs declined by -2.4% and now stand at 60% market share. If you are wondering why Intel’s GPU market share touches the sky, it’s because the team Blue’s CPUs with iGPUs are a part of the data that the report is shedding light on.

In terms of overall shipment, Nvidia took the crown by welcoming an increase of 3.2%. Sadly, AMD and Intel cannot say the same as they saw a fall of -6.2% and -1.5%, respectively.

AMD 19% 18% 17%
Intel NA 5% 4%
Nvidia 81% 78% 78%

Now coming to the discrete GPU market, the Green team held possession of its 78% market share from the previous quarter, while AMD saw its share dwindle by -1% to stand at 17% currently. Lastly, Intel declined by 1%, taking its Q1’22 discrete GPU market share to 17%.

This figure should not send Intel’s enthusiasts to a panic-stricken state because the Arc GPUs arrived by the end of Q1 2022, so naturally, the tech giant will take its time before imposing some competition. The fact that its GPUs are restricted to specific markets as well alludes to this low share.

With Nvidia and AMD expected to launch their next-gen lineup later this year, it’ll be interesting to see how Intel brushes aside competition and makes a name for itself.
