Noragami 10-Year Anniversary: Will the Anime Get a Third Season?

Noragami is one of the most highly anticipated anime at this point. After its second season aired in 2015, we haven’t heard a peep from them about a sequel for over 9 years. On the 10th of August, the Noragami anime hit its 10-Year Anniversary. The announcements that came along with this may hint towards an upcoming season.

Noragami is a manga written and illustrated by the duo Adachitoka. It was adapted by studio BONES in 2014 and had two seasons aired by the end of 2015. The popular Shounen manga reached its conclusion in January 2024. What is a better time for a new season, if not now? Let’s delve into the speculations suggesting that Noragami will be getting a new season.

The 10-Year Anniversary Announcements

The 10th of August marked the 10 Year Anniversary of the Noragami anime. To commemorate this, the new “Shichifuku Project” was launched.

This project was revealed to include a Special Blu-Ray Box of the Noragami anime and a new special visual.

Besides this, it was also announced that the two seasons of the Noragami anime would be streaming on YouTube for a limited period of time. The streaming may only be available in specific regions, and this is yet to be confirmed.

Will Noragami Get A Third Season?

Since no announcement on the release of the third season has been made yet, nothing is definitive. However, there are a few hints that have been dropped, which point towards the possibility of a third season.

Studio BONES has established a new sub-studio: Studio F, which is apparently working on a “Secret project” that is to be revealed later.

Studio Bones has several sub-studios ranging from A-F, each in charge of their own projects. The first season of Noragami was handled by Studio A though. However, it isn’t uncommon for a title to later be handed over to a different sub-studio. The popular anime My Hero Academia was initially handled by Studio A and then shifted to Studio C. This should explain the difference in animation style in the later seasons.

It could be possible that BONES’ new sub-studio F may be working on a new season/movie of Noragami. They have confirmed that their new project will be revealed later next year.

It has also been noted that Kotaro Tamura, the previous director for Noragami, hasn’t been involved in any other anime since the release of Bungou Stray Dogs in 2023. This could mean that he could potentially be working on a new series (perhaps Noragami season 3).

From Studio BONES’ secret project to the very convenient conclusion of the Noragami manga earlier this year, all point toward the chance of Noragami getting a new season this year.

Should We Keep Our Fingers Crossed for This?

Several years have passed since the last season of Noragami aired. With no conclusive evidence for a new season and still no real reason (other than the 10-year anniversary) for a sudden adaption of the third reason, should fans really keep their hopes up for a new season?

With a glass-half-full perspective, I’d say even if Noragami won’t get a new season, we’d still get to watch the old episodes airing on YouTube and reminisce about the past. But hey, if we do get a season 3, that’s a cherry on top!

How Did Noragami Aragato End?

Noragami is basically a story about a god who wears a tracksuit and goes around doing odd jobs for people at a really cheap price. Due to special circumstances, a high school girl, Iki Hiyori, gets involved with Yato and is now capable of interacting with the supernatural.

Noragami Araagato concluded with Ebisu’s rebirth following Yato’s unsuccessful attempt to rescue him from the Higher-Up Gods.

Eventually, Ebisu woke up and began to rediscover his former self, while Yato gained insight into the kind of God he should aspire to be. The final episode set a significant tone for the ongoing storyline of the franchise.

One intriguing hint that suggests a potential third season is the appearance of Yato’s father. In the last episode, Yato decides to part ways with Nora, putting an end to his troubling past. However, it seems that there is a connection between Nora and Yato’s father, which could serve as the plot for Season 3. Consequently, Season 2 of Noragami left ample room for the next chapter, and the conclusion of the second season wouldn’t pose an obstacle if a third season were to be produced.
