Rian Johnson’s hit franchise Knives Out features the same lucky charm that all of his directorial works do – a cameo from Johnson’s frequent collaborator and close friend, Noah Segan. And now the actor has addressed the possibility of returning for the already confirmed threequel after his roles as Trooper Wagner and Derol quickly turned into fan favorites.
Segan’s character wasn’t pivotal in both Knives Out films, but Johnson’s fans have grown accustomed to seeing his familiar face in every title under the director. In an interview with SlashFilm, the actor spoke about his possible return to Knives Out 3, stating that he had no idea presently. Although, the actor did admit it’d be a “little awkward” to “finally drop” Segan at “this juncture.”
Well, I can neither confirm nor deny anything. Because here’s the thing: I generally know as much as anybody knows until I get to read a script, which is far along in the process. Part of the joy of being a part of this family is that I can just sit back and offer myself and just say, ‘Hey, listen, however I can be a part of this and however I can be helpful and hang out with my friends and try to make something that is entertaining for people, that’s all I want to do.’
Hopefully, I can do that with them on the next one. But I don’t really have any set expectations. It’d be awkward if Rian decided to drop me at this juncture finally. It would definitely be a little bit weird, but I think, by and large, whatever I can do, that’s what I’m game for.
Noah Segan
The actor also detailed Johnson’s “mercurial” thinking and how he usually comes up with a script quickly. His excitement is evidently the same as ours when thinking about what the genius would come up with for the third film.
Of course, apart from the film’s confirmation, only a little is known about Knives Out 3, except Johnson and Craig’s return to the third film.
We’re pretty sure we’ll see Segan again in Knives Out 3 because, as the actor stated, it’d just be awkward not to take him on at this point. We also expect to see another cameo from Hugh Grant, who most audiences consider Blanc’s spouse.
For now, fans of the Knives Out franchise and Segan can only hope Johnson doesn’t flake out on his tradition and skip the actor’s cameo.
