Andrew Barth Feldman may be a newbie in the Hollywood buisness, but he’s already raking in some serious credits! He recently starred beside Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence in the over-the-top comedy, No Hard Feelings.
The actor plays a teen who may have his academic life sorted but needs a boost in his social skills, and his helicopter parents hire Uber driver Maddie to “date” him. The teen actor recently spoke to ScreenRant and explained how his work on Foul Play got him ready for improvisational comedy on the set of No Hard Feelings.
Read his complete statement below on his use of improv skills with Jennifer Lawrence:
I was improvising a bunch on No Hard Feelings. I think doing Foul Play really did bring me so much confidence in being able to do that and learning from these legendary improvisers. I learned so much as an actor, let alone as the person having to make a lot of the calls behind the scenes.
To be on that set, learning from these people in real-time, was really a remarkable education that I provided for myself. Going into No Hard Feelings, that kind of freedom, especially [with] something that we can cut later.
Foul Play, we can’t cut, we can’t go back. [On] No Hard Feelings we could. So, there was no excuse not to try everything and improvise a bunch and just see stuff in the movie now.
So many of my and our improvisations have made it into the [final] cut of the movie and even in the trailer. Things that our director was throwing at us on the day are in that trailer. So, being able to work on the fly and change things based on what somebody’s throwing at you, that was indispensable.
No Hard Feelings brings back a nostalgic feel by diving into the raunchy comedy genre that was all the hype in the early 2000s. Maddie’s outgoing and exuberant personality brings out Percy’s rebellious and curious side, thus helping him get out of his introverted shell before college.
He really should thank his parents for arranging a “girlfriend” with whom he can learn to be a freer self because isn’t college the place where you go wild? And “wild” is precisely what you’d expect from this comedy starring J-Law and Feldman after seeing the trailer above.
No Hard Feelings, by Gene Stupnitsky, is set to hit theaters on June 23, 2023. Are you going to watch the comedy film on the big screen? Drop your answers in the comments!
