The Golden Globes 2022 ceremony is happening, but with a lot of inconveniences.
After NBC pulled its support and canceled the telecast of the 79th Annual Golden Globe Awards this year following HFPA’s controversy, the ceremony grows even more lackluster as celebrities refuse to be associated with it.
Ever since the backlash brought its various problem to light, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has tried reforming the committee.
However, it looks like the ceremony is beyond the point of salvation at this point. According to Variety, the HFPA was unable to book any celebrity presenters to announce this year’s Golden Globe winners.
In an email obtained by the news outlet, one of the Globes talent bookers reached out to several agencies regarding their clients participating in the event. However, sources told Variety that no celebs have accepted the invitation.
The HFPA did not comment, and it is unknown how it will proceed further with the ceremony scheduled for January 9 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
The reforms included adding 21 new members in a bid to add diversity, new bylaws, and banning its members from accepting gifts for bribes from studios.
NBC’s statement back in May, explaining its decision to not air this year’s ceremony, read,
We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes. Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.
The organization announced some details on Tuesday, which confirmed there will only be select members and grantees present at the event. Media outlets have not been invited either.
It is not known whether the Globes will be live-streamed anywhere. The list of winners can be expected to be released once the event concludes.
