Aquaman star Amber Heard has been shrouded in controversy ever since her separation from ex-husband Johnny Depp and their subsequent legal battle. The latest rumor doing the rounds online last Sunday was that Warner Bros. had fired Heard from Aquaman 2 after a huge outcry from Depp fans. However, these rumors now seem debunked after a THR reporter quoted a reliable source denying Heard’s firing.
Rumors that Amber Heard has been fired from Aquaman 2 stated that the actress had not met physical requirements for her role as Mera. However, The Hollywood Reporter‘s Ryan Parker later took to social media to note that he’d been told by a reliable source that Heard is not off Aquaman 2. No additional details were provided.

However, this isn’t the first time that speculations of Heard being replaced on the project have surfaced online. After Aquaman came out in 2018 with Heard in the lead role, social media campaigns started to break, demanding her removal from the film. Just a few months back, in November, Heard herself was forced to debunk rumors of her firing.
It all started with Heard’s ongoing legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp in 2016. Besides filing for divorce, Heard had also obtained a temporary restraining order against Depp on the ground of physical abuse under the influence of drugs/alcohol. Calls for Heard’s firing went a notch up after Depp had to step down from his role as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise in November last year. (Mads Mikkelsen has since been cast in the role.)
Denying all such rumors, Heard went on to allege that such rumors were but “paid” for. “Paid rumors and paid campaigns on social media don’t dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality. Only the fans actually made Aquaman and Aquaman 2 happen. I’m excited to get started next year,” said Heard. Aquaman 2 is scheduled for release in December 2022.
