Nintendo has admitted that they are working on a successor of the Nintendo Switch which very well might be the Nintendo Switch 2. It might be an all-new console rather than the rumored Switch Pro. But if recent reports are to be believed, then Nintendo’s next console could be in danger.
Judging by new information, the Switch successor could be worse for gamers having a huge library of games. This is because the Switch uses Nvidia’s Tegra X1 chip and if the new console doesn’t use that, then older Switch games won’t work on the new hardware.
The new console could be a backward compatibility nightmare if the new reports turn out to be true. This was explained in a recent YouTube video from YouTuber ModernVintageGamer. You can check out the video below.
Nintendo Switch models are already behind due to the differences in power compared to PlayStation and Xbox, resulting in newer games not releasing for the system. If the new system can’t run older games and isn’t backwards compatible, then players might lose significant progress that they made on older titles.
Integrating a new chip also causes trouble with the developers who, to increase the longevity of their titles, are forced to make it compatible with the new hardware, a task which is both time consuming and costly.
At the end of the day, it depends on what Nintendo wants to do. Whether they want a Switch 2 or Switch Pro, or an entirely different system. If they decide to go with the latter, then get ready for more remakes and remaster.
