Game Boy Games May Soon Be Available on Nintendo Switch!

Who doesn’t think back to the fond memories as a child holding the Game Boy, switching it on, and hearing that iconic *ding*. Well, if you have a thing for nostalgia and have been wondering how to get your Game Boy fix, Nintendo might have some good news coming your way.

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers may soon be able to play Game Boy titles on the handheld, along with the NES and SNES that are already available.

The NES and SNES game libraries for NSO subscribers have been steadily growing, and now it seems that the games from an entirely new console will also be made available.

Given how strict Nintendo is about the emulation and piracy of its games, this seems like it would be the best course of action. Honestly, I’m surprised it took them this long to get to it. Better late than never, I guess.

Sources close to Nintendo Life are now claiming that a new collection will be added to the NSO library very soon. This may include games from the Game Boy and Game Boy Color. We’ll have to wait longer for Advance games to start dropping.

Nintendo began the NSO library in 2018, and a datamine revealed four emulators, all with code names – Kachikachi, Canoe, Hiyoko, and Count. Kachikachi and Canoe were the code names used for the classic version of the NES and SNES. This would leave two emulators left to be used, and it seems that one of them was reserved for the Game Boy and Game Boy Color.

If previous patterns are followed, Game Boy will hit the NSO with 20 titles, a collection that will grow over time. Currently, the NES and SNES libraries receive new titles around once a month.

It has been more than a month since the last games were announced, so it may mean Nintendo is waiting as it is gearing up to reveal and add the Game Boy and Game Boy Color.

If these rumors prove true, that leaves one emulator left, which could be assigned to the Nintendo 340348, GameCube, or maybe even the Wii.

But given that the Mario games from all three of these consoles are being remastered and bundled, the Game Boy Advance seems to be the best bet for the last emulator. But, given that the Game Boy has yet to arrive, it’s pretty clear that the Game Boy Advance is still a long way off.
