According to a recent report from Bloomberg, there is a high chance that Nintendo Switch may be receiving an upgrade to its hardware, alongside an amazing line-up of video games.
Even though the console has been out for only about four years at this point, it has set its mark as one of the best consoles that one can buy, at the time of writing.
In some aspects, the Nintendo Switch surpasses both the Xbox one X and the PlayStation 4!
From its portability to the well-provided third-party support, it is safe to say that Nintendo has redeemed itself since Nintendo Wii U.
But if there was one caveat of the Switch, it will be its hardware limitations. As it stands, the Switch cannot live up to the PlayStation or the Xbox in that aspect.
And with the next-generation of consoles right around the corner, it’s only natural for Nintendo to tweak their console and even the playing ground.
In terms of what they’re planning, the sky’s the limit at this point. But the report suggests that Nintendo is looking to build a complete power-house out of the Switch.
What will the upgrade be like?
The upgrade in question will fit the console with support for 4K resolution, and an overhaul of hardware in general.
This change can prove to be the biggest jump that a console from Nintendo may have taken to date as, up until now, their console could only support a maximum of 1080p resolution.
Of course, considering how the sales for the original console and the Switch Lite are still going pretty strongly, one should abandon any hope of receiving any news, announcements, or the upgraded console itself within this year.
The move may be the right one, as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are launching during the holiday season of this year. So, the new Switch may end up being overshadowed by its competitors.
The upgrade will coincide with the release of new games!
Alongside the upgrade, one can also expect some amazing titles for the Switch coming towards their way, such as the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Metroid Prime 4, and maybe, just maybe, Super Mario Odyssey 2 as well!
How Nintendo decides to handle the upgrade is up to them, but it will be interesting to see the impact it carries to the next-generation of gaming consoles!
About the Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo Switch is a hybrid video game console the combines the performance of a home console with the portability of consoles such as the Nintendo DS, PlayStation Vita, etc.
After the Wii U’s failure, Nintendo sought to fix all the issues that plagued the previous console in the Nintendo Switch, ranging from the lack of third-party support to the general execution of the Wii U’s portability.
All these issues were fixed in the Switch, proving the console to be quite competent to go up against the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
As of 2020, the Nintendo Switch has sold over 61 million units, combined with the sales of the Lite version, making it one of the fastest-selling consoles of all time.
