Although the Unreal Engine-built game shines in many areas, it has some limitations – notably, its ultrawide monitor support only applies to gameplay, with cutscenes displaying black bars. Here’s how to fix it.

1. How to Fix Ultrawide Cutscene Issue in Ninja Gaiden 2 Black

Thanks to Rose from the widescreen community, a patch is now available to address this issue. To resolve the ultrawide cutscenes problem in Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, here’s a step-by-step guide to install the patch:

• Visit the GitHub link and download the Ninja.Gaiden.2.Black.ultrawide.v1.0.zip file under Assets.
• Extract the zip file to the game’s installation directory:
  • Steam: \NINJAGAIDEN2BLACK\Binaries\Win64
  • Xbox App (Game Pass): \NINJAGAIDEN2BLACK\Binaries\WinGDK
• Launch Ninja Gaiden 2 Black and set the Display mode to Borderless for the patch to work.
• Alternatively, set the Display mode to Fullscreen, close the game, and edit the ResolutionX and ResolutionY values in the GameUserSettings.ini file, located at:
  • Steam: %LOCALAPPDATA%\NINJAGAIDEN2BLACK\Saved\Config\
  • Xbox App (Game Pass): %LOCALAPPDATA%\NINJAGAIDEN2BLACK\Saved\Config\WinGDK\

With these simple steps, you should now be able to enjoy Ninja Gaiden 2 Black’s cutscenes without any distracting black bars.

To uninstall the patch, delete the extracted files from Ninja.Gaiden.2.Black.ultrawide.v1.0.zip. There are no reported issues with the patch, hence it’s unlikely to receive any updates.

It’s also improbable that the developers will release an official patch to remove pillar boxing from cutscenes, which could lead to awkward framing issues.
