Only a week has passed since the release of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, and the game has been in the news ever since the launch weekend for all the wrong reasons. The game has been swamped with waves of criticism, from the Switch version looking subpar to the game not being available on PC for days.
The reason for the unavailability on PC was that the game contained files from the original that were not supposed to be there. Those files have now been removed, and the game is once again available for purchase and play through the Rockstar Launcher. That also opened the gates for modders to step in and right the many wrongs currently existing within the game.
GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition now has its own Nexus Mods page with 40 mods available for download. The page includes fixes for the individual games along with mods that will work across all three titles. One of the most common issues was to do with the rain, where players could not see because of a thick curtain of falling water. A fix for this is now available on Nexus Mods.
Other mods include a way to skip the Vice City intro, one that switches the game money for 50 euro bills, and a mod that improves the appearance of CJ’s girl. Denise Robinson’s character design has been getting a lot of attention as it looks worse in the remaster than it did in the original.
Nexus Mods fixes can only be downloaded and installed on PC, so those playing the Trilogy on consoles will have to wait for Rockstar to release official game patches and fixes.
The studio has not released any official word on when to expect these, but we hope they will release them as soon as possible, given the sheer volume of issues people have been bringing up. Until those fixes are released, it’s going to be raining bad reviews. So much so that the collection now has overtaken eFootball to become the worst-rated game of 2021.
