It was reported last month that Intel relies entirely on TSMC to produce their next-generation 4nm and 3nm GPU dies and IPs based on their fast-selling Alchemist architecture and the upcoming Battlemage and Celestial architectures.
The Alchemist was the discrete GPU that utilized TSMC’s 6nm process node. It came in three variants ACM-G10, G11, and G12. The ACM-G12 is reported to launch later this year as a part of the Arc Alchemist Refresh.
The same source, Gamma0burst, has pruned through LinkedIn profiles of AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm employees and found mentions of Intel engineers or ex-employees who have worked/are working on 3nm/4nm discrete GPUs. Two profiles concur, including observations of working on the 5nm GPUs.
This news will please the fans who have loved Intel’s previous Arc GPU offerings. The main reason for the popularity was the very high performance-to-price ratio.
Another Intel engineer’s profile on LinkedIn has mentioned Battlemage GPU based on the Xe2 HPG (high-performance graphics) variant of the Xe architecture.
The same profile also mentioned working on the Panther Lake GPU and the Xe3 LPG Discrete GPU. The three GPU lineups listed were:
- Xe – The Alchemist GPU
- Xe2 – The Battlemage GPU
- Xe3 – The Celestial GPU
- Xe Next – The Druid GPU
The follow-up to the Xe Alchemist iGPUs will include Lunar Lake as the Xe2 LPG GPUs utilizing the Battlemage architecture. The Xe3 LPG chips featured on Panther Lake will adopt the next-gen Celestial architecture.
While most of the products are years away, seeing the Xe GPUs compete with Nvidia RTX, and AMD’s RX series offerings will be interesting.
It has been confirmed that the Xe iGPUs and the dGPUs will co-exist. Intel is working towards realizing the Xe Battlemage and Celestial into competitive offerings for high-end users in the form of their next-gen Arc GPUs.
