New World is facing a host of issues, and the list gets longer with every passing day. Most recently, players had been flagging off a glitch that stemmed from some in-game perks that weren’t operating as they should. A fix has since been released, but it seems not everything is hunky-dory as yet.
The glitch itself had to do with the perks such as ‘Against All Odds’ and ‘Bloodlust’ and the buff it provides to players. Usually, the perk gives players a base damage increase of 10% for every enemy within a five-meter radius. This buff is supposed to disappear as enemies around you reduce in number or you swap your weapons. However, Players reported that the buff did not go away when enemies left the five-meter radius or even when the player died.
How to activate the hatchet glitch?
To activate the glitch, players would have to simply use the hatchet on enemies, as usual, to ramp up the damage output. This resulted in users being able to output damage of up to 2,000 while unbuffed. The buff would only go away once the player swapped weapons.
Why is the glitch so game-breaking?
The buff made some of New World’s PvE content easier, but the real effect was felt in Wars and other PvP modes. Players using this glitch were able to ramp up the damage of their hatchet by farming boars, then jump into a PvP mode such as Outpost Rush and decimate other players. Some players were also setting up macros for animation cancels, allowing them to land blows quicker.
Has it been fixed?
Amazon Game Studios has released patch 1.0.5, which has addressed several issues, including the damage scaling through passive buffs. You can check out the full patch notes here, but this is what is said for the Hatchet buff.
Group Scaling Passives: Fixed issues which could cause passive effects that scaled on the number of nearby foes, such as ‘Bloodlust’ (Great Axe), ‘Against All Odds’ (Hatchet), and ‘Outnumbered’ (Warhammer), to apply incorrectly.

However, people are still taking to the New World forums saying that the bugs can still be exploited, just through a different mode of activation. However, the poster did not detail the method of activating it this time, as they did not want to make it public knowledge.
Amazon has a lot of problems to address when it comes to New World, and every day more are cropping up. It seems the only choice the studio may have is to shut the game down for a period of time to address all the concerns at once. This may be seen as a bad move, but if New World can come back after the hiatus as a properly functioning game, it could quickly bring back the already halved player base.
