Marvel’s new animated series What If…? premiered its first episode last week, which saw Peggy Carter as Captain Carter, replacing Steve Rodgers’ Captain America.
The episode saw a different type of social media marketing as Peggy took over the Captain America Twitter account. It got fans talking about the series, so naturally, Marvel had to repeat the move ahead of Episode 2.
The @Guardians account changed its display name to T’Challa Star-Lord and replaced the profile picture with an animated version of the Wakandan superhero. The account also posted a poster of T’Challa with a Star-Lord-Esque get-up.
What If…? is an anthology series and will tell a different story centered around the beloved characters having different fates than the ones we know.
The series will also mark Chadwick Boseman’s final appearance as T’Challa. It will be Boseman’s final role after his untimely passing last year.
In an interview with EW, Jeffrey Wright, who voices The Watcher in the series, spoke about what it was like listening to the Boseman’s final performance.
I was really moved to hear Chadwick Boseman voice T’Challa again as he does in the show. I actually first met him when Black Panther was being introduced at Comic-Con.
We saw each other from time to time after that and just to watch him grow as an actor and watch him take on this character, to see what that character meant, and to understand that he was doing that while facing serious challenges, I just find to be on the level of heroism that Black Panther himself is on.
So to be a part of just a little bit of what some of his last work is really special. And I can’t wait for folks to just hear him.

What If…? will release Episode 2 this Wednesday, August 18, on Disney+.
