‘Sword Art Online’ has gradually been inching toward its end. With the ‘Sword of Alicization’ arc meeting its end, the series will move on to the ‘Unital Ring’ arc.
Initially, fans have been considering that we have some time before the story’s final arc, but the franchise’s latest announcement might change the equation completely.
The 10th-anniversary of ‘Sword Art Online’ anime has led to a ‘Full Dive’ event where it was announced that the franchise will receive an original movie. While no news about its plot is out yet, we are free to speculate about what it might show.
A new video sequence from A-1 Pictures has also been revealed, and it shows the main characters from SAO. What’s peculiar about the trailer is that it shows all the characters in the real world.
At the end of the video, Kirito, Asuna, and the others can be seen putting on their headsets to log in to the game once again.
The film might bridge the gap between the ‘War of Underworld’ and ‘Unital Ring’ arcs. At the finale of War of Underworld, Kirito and Asuna had lived as the queen and king in the game for 200 years (2 weeks in real-time). Then they decided to return to the real world before they were forced into another VRMMORPG.
All three of SAO’s previous films have connected two arcs with each other, and the upcoming one seems like it will serve the same purpose. If so, then this might be the last movie of the franchise since Unital Ring is the final arc.
Since it’s an original anime, you can’t expect it to follow the novel or manga’s plotline, but still, I’m excited to see another possibly mind-blowing addition to the franchise.
About Sword Art Online
Sword Art Online is a Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by Abec.
The series occurs in the near future and focuses on the protagonist “Kirito” Kirigaya Kazuto and Asuna Yuuki as they play through various virtual reality MMORPG worlds.
At the launch of the game, 10,000 people had connected themselves to the virtual reality of Sword Art Online. The plot takes a twist when people realize that they can’t quit the game.
Protagonist Kirito, a pro gamer and was present for the beta launch of SAO, starts planning to clear levels as soon as possible. Throughout his quest to finish the game, he meets many friends and also a love interest, Asuna.
The plot and the whole premise of the show are remarkably unique and quite believable in some futuristic sense.
