New Valheim Mods Make The Game Much Harder Instead of Easier

While most gamers like a fair challenge, this is just batsh*t crazy.

The more popular (and accepted) purpose of a mod is to tweak game mechanics to the point that games become easier and more enjoyable to play. But it seems that some modders never got that memo as they’ve gone ahead and made mods that make playing Valheim more difficult than easy. And “difficult” is not an understatement here.

For starters (pun not intended), flamesoff’s Starvation mod enables you to starve to death. Yup.

Valheim places a fair bit of importance on keeping your Viking avatar well-fed but lack of nutrition will not cause him to die. A mod like this will probably appeal to hardcore survival nuts (who might also be slightly sadistic) but those looking for a normal gaming experience should steer clear.

For flamesoff, it doesn’t stop at starvation. The modder is planning to add a bunch of more difficulty enhancing parameters including the ability to get cold, longer day/night cycles, possibility of breaking limbs and more.

A really handy mechanic in Valheim is to do with resources for repairs – the game lets you repair almost anything without using any precious resources. So, if you’re not happy with the state of any of your weapons, buildings etc., one whack of your trusty hammer and it’ll be good as new with your resource cache unaffected.

But if you have aedenthorn’s Repair Requires Materials mod in play, you’ll lose that breezy convenience. So, each repair will cost you in the resources department depending on how damaged the item in repair is.

Valheim developers have already stated in their FAQ that they won’t be offering any ‘official support’ to mods for the time being. But clearly, this hasn’t slowed modders down in the slightest. From a simple first-person perspective mod to the mega changer Valheim Plus, mods across the spectrum are popping up for the game. So, irrespective of whether you want to make the game easier or more difficult, there is a lot for you to choose from.
