We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Valheim is a new-age classic in the making. From its Early Access launch earlier this month to becoming a 4 million units seller, the game is putting far more established titles to shame.
But let’s face it, the game has an extremely faulty inventory system. This, in no way, is a slight on the five-person team at Iron Gate Studios as all games have their kinks. Additionally, the nature of the system could also be a way to encourage players to work together to accumulate more resources and build more structures. But at the end of the day, it remains unforgiving as hell.
Thankfully, modders have come to the rescue. There are a bunch of new mods, now available for players to employ, to make the inventory experience more bearable.
First, there’s Randy Knapp’s Equipment & Quick Slots mod. It gives equipped items their own separate inventory segment, and also provides players with a few additional hotkey-able quick slots—useful for potions and the like. If you still find yourself running out of space, which you most likely will, you can take Aedenthorn’s Discard Inventory Items mod for a spin. This one allows you to select items and permanently delete them. Although, this does not mean those items will disappear forever, so choose wisely.
If the experience with any of these is still not to your satisfaction and you wish to see how far you can push the game, you can check out Fang86’s MoreSlots. This mod gives you more inventory slots, with a caveat: you do not lose the items on death. This seems like a fairly crazy mod as it has the potential to change the game’s mechanics to an insane extent.
These should keep customization-chasing players happy for a while. Apart from that one seed that puts all biomes and bosses within reach and a first-person perspective mod, there hasn’t been much development in the customization department from modders or Iron Gate. So, until the developers decide to officially update the inventory system, this is the best bet for players looking to have a more enjoyable experience in the Norse afterlife.
