The Sea Beast is an upcoming Netflix animated film, revolving around the life of a sea monster hunter, Jacob Holland. The film is directed by Chris Williams, who is known for his work in movies like Big Hero 6 and Moana.
Taking on Jacob Holland’s role in the movie is Karl Urban, who plays the legendary monster hunter who must protect and train a young girl named Maisie Brumble (voiced by Zaris-Angel Hator), who has snuck aboard his ship.
Jared Harris, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Dan Stevens, and Kathy Burke also lend their voices to The Sea Beast.
Netflix has unveiled a brand-new, full-length trailer for the upcoming movie, which introduces several new sea monsters and focuses on Jacob and Maisie’s growing bond.

This project was originally titled Jacob and the Sea Beast and Williams announced it back in 2018 as his next project, following his role as a co-director on Disney’s award-winning animated feature Moana.
In the last several years, many Disney creatives have made the switch to Netflix, as the popular streaming service continues to strive to become a major player in the animation world.
Netflix has shown that they have what it takes to compete with the likes of the studio giants, with Oscar-nominated films like 2020’s Over the Moon and 2021’s The Mitchells vs. The Machines.
With the Sea Beast, we expect a continuation of the trend or even the possibility of going further.
The Sea Beast will be available on Netflix on July 8.
