When it comes to the horror genre, not many have been popular. But the ones that have, became classics. It does not always have to take the route of ghosts and demons. Sometimes supernatural anime with a dark tone has the same impact.
An old story is returning from the shadows to reintroduce itself after more than 30 years.
On Saturday, Netflix shared a new teaser and visual for the new anime adaptation of Akuma-kun. The video reveals four more cast members and other staff members. It is scheduled to arrive in the fall of this year.
In the short video, the protagonist Ichiro Umoregi can be seen in his daily life but also researching something with Mephisto III. It also shows Ichiro performing a ritual at the end. New characters like Sanae, Mio, Gremory, and Hina are also shown.

Among the newly announced staff members, Sakae Shibuya has been credited as the character designer and chief animation director. The music is composed by Akio Izutsu.
Toei Animation is returning to co-produce the new anime series with Encourage Films. Fumitoshi Oizaki is directing the series with scripts written by Hiroshi Ohnogi.
Akuma-kun is one of the four big projects to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Shigeru Mizuki. Another project is Kitarō Tanjō: Gegege no Nazo which is planned for release on November 17.

From the teaser, the background and the characters’ designs and colors give it a nice retro appeal. When combined with the technology of today, it looks almost flawless for an anime.
About Akuma-kun (2023 series)
Akuma-kun is an upcoming ONA series based on the 1963 manga by Shigeru Mizuki. The manga has received several anime adaptations before and the 2023 series celebrates the 100th birth anniversary of Mizuki.
Mr. Sato is summoned by his boss to tutor his only son in exchange for a high-ranking position in the company. Later, he realizes that the child, Ichiro is a boy genius and a master of black magic. The boy wants to open the portal between hell and Earth to take over the world.
