A new trailer for the action-packed animated drama, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is out now and it sees Miles Morales up against a number of Spider-Men. The film will hit theaters on June 2, 2023.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a sequel to the 2018 animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The film focuses on Miles Morales aka Spider-Man from the Marvel comics. However, it is not a part of the MCU.
Across the Spider-Verse is the first part of the two-part sequel that is to follow the first film. The film will be followed by Beyond the Spider-Verse, the second part of the sequel. Across the Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson while the screenplay has been written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham.
The newly released trailer for Across the Spider-Verse promises an emotional rollercoaster ride for the audience, much like its first installment. The trailer is full of emotional moments and at the same time is a visual delight.
Check out the trailer below –
The trailer begins with a monolog by Miles’ mother, Rio where she talks about her son’s journey, his changing ideas of the world and her worries about him going forward into the future. The monolog stirs the heart, as stellar animated visuals occupy the screen.
The trailer also features a lot of Spider-Men, including Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) and Spider-Woman (Issa Raye). Spider-Woman is pregnant in the film like she was in the 2015 comic series featuring her character.
There’s a scene where Miles buys a Spider-Man costume from a store and the storekeeper resembles Stan Lee, the creator of Spider-Man in the original Marvel comics. So, the trailer also pays a short tribute to the comic maestro.
Like the first installment, Across the Spider-Verse will also be quite an emotional journey. Here’s what the film’s official synopsis says –
“After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.”
It was also confirmed earlier that The Spot would be the main villain in the sequel. He will not only go after Miles in Across the Spider-Verse, but also torment him in Beyond the Spider-Verse. The Spot’s main superpower is that he can use the spots on him to travel to other dimensions and control the portal’s size and shape.
To take him down, Miles will have to team up with other Spider-Men, which will form the crux of Across the Spider-Verse.
