The Pokemon Company had revealed last month that a brand new anime called Pokemon: Twilight Wings would be kicking off starting new year. The series was set to be an online-exclusive.
The series also doesn’t take place in the main Pokemon anime’s world but instead follows various characters of the Sword and Shield region.
The first episode of Pokemon: Twilight Wings premiered yesterday, on January 15, on their official YouTube channel.

The animated series is set in the Galar region, where Pokémon battles have deep rooted in the culture. It will consist of seven episodes and will focus on Galar residents and their daily conflicts along with the challenges they must overcome.
What else is there except people you ask? Pokemons! We are expecting to see a variety of Pokemons which were originally discovered in the Galar region to come out of poke balls again.
Each episode will be approximately five minutes in length. Animation is done by Studio Colorido, whose previous work includes anime film Penguin Highway.
The official press release describes the series as follows:
“Galar is a region where Pokémon battles have developed into a cultural sensation. Over the span of seven episodes, “Pokémon: Twilight Wings” will show in detail the dreams of Galar’s residents, the realities they face, the challenges they must overcome and the conflicts they must resolve. In addition to these new stories, fans can expect to see a variety of Pokémon originally discovered in the Galar region appearing in the capsule series.”
The first episode, titled “Letter,” follows a young boy named John who’s been hospital-bound from an early age. He seems to be a huge fan of Pokémon and of the Galar region’s champion, Leon.
The episode also includes some quick glimpses of Galar region Gym Leaders like Bea, Aleister, Milo and Nessa. At one point they also showed Hop and his Wooloo.

It’ll be interesting to see how the remaining 6 episodes play out and whether the series will revisit John or not. The second episode is scheduled to be released in early February so hang on tight!

Pokémon: Twilight Wings is an animated mini-series based on Pokémon Sword and Shield set in the Galar region. Each episode focuses on a different character and is connected by a boy named John, who has been in the hospital since his childhood and is a die hard fan of Champion Leon. This is a 7 episode series where each episode is supposed to be around 5 mins in length.
