New set pictures from Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi have been leaked. The images show a mysterious setting being built which looks very similar to the planet of Tatooine. Home to the Skywalkers, the location will play an important role in the upcoming series.
A release date is yet to be announced, but with filming expected to begin soon, it looks like the wait might have to be pushed back to late 2022.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will follow the legendary Jedi Master on the run following the events of Order 66 in Revenge of the Sith. The new pictures revealed by Bespin Bulletin show the recent developments on the fictional planet’s set, which is currently under construction. Check the images out here:
Although it is hard to make out the details from the images, there is no doubt given the sandy landscape that Obi-Wan Kenobi will be situated in the titular character’s temporary homeland.
Considering Kenobi’s movements before the original trilogy, the upcoming show was bound to take place on Tatooine. However, it could shift locations as some other set photos have teased a probable return to the Lars Homestead.
The casting of Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru also supports this theory.
Further cast members joining the Disney+ show include Indira Varma, Kumail Nanjiani, Moses Ingram, O’Shea Jackson, and Rupert Friend.
But since leaks have started circulating even before production has begun, we can expect more glimpses when filming commences. Ewan McGregor reprises his role as Kenobi from the prequel trilogy, and so does Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader. Moreover, in a recent interview, McGregor also hinted at a young Luke Skywalker appearing in the show.
As for set construction, Disney seems to be very into experimenting with new-age technology and paying attention to the minutest details. Considering that The Mandalorian digitally reconstructed Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker for an appearance, Obi-Wan Kenobi too will feature similar technological additions, according to McGregor.
The Mandalorian, which became a hit with fans, proved Disney+ and Lucasfilm’s joint venture to be a successful breakthrough. Currently, many other shows are in the works, which include The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka.
Now, with the Star Wars franchise expanding into TV shows, the force definitely seems to be strong with this one.
