There is no doubt that Elden Ring is a beautiful game. FromSoftware has put everything they learned over the course of their previous games into their latest open-world franchise. The game lacks one visual enhancement that many are eager for: ray-tracing. While we don’t know when the official upgrade will be out, we can still count on the modding community to work their magic.
Named Elden Ring 2 by MANgamez, the reshade improves the graphics giving it “more details, more AO, better reflections, better shadows, optional ray-tracing.” It also makes the atmosphere “a bit somber and more grim.” Purists don’t need to be too worried, as the mod does try to stay true to the original version.
Comparing the same scenes with RTX on and off, we can see the improvements from ray-tracing and the reshade. Armor looks dazzling in the light, water reflects the surrounding area more accurately, and shadows look deeper and more realistic.
The mod should not be too demanding to install. As long as you have the proper hardware, you shouldn’t notice any dip in FPS. According to the creator, they got “full fps in max settings on 2560x1440p.”
If you encounter stuttering or lag, there is a guide on fixing the problem to enjoy a more stable experience with the mod.
The Elden Ring modding scene is still budding, most likely due to the requirement of playing offline. This is because of the Easy Anti-Cheat FromSoftware has implemented in the game.
So, even if you’re using a mod that lets you just pause the game, you’ll still have to play in offline mode to avoid getting banned. Here’s hoping FromSoftware develops a workaround for this, as mods greatly enhance the playing experience.
