Total Film has just released new images of Creed 3 showing Michael B. Jordan (Adonis Creed) and Jonathan Majors (Damian Anderson) facing off each other.
Creed 3 is the ninth overall installment in the Rocky franchise and the third part of the Creed spin-off series featuring Donnie. The film marks the directorial debut of Jordan and is also the first in the Rocky franchise not to have Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa.
The story of Creed 3 revolves around Adonis Creed and his childhood friend and boxing prodigy, Damian Anderson. Damian is recently released from prison and is hell-bent on proving himself.
What begins as an emotional reunion of two childhood friends soon takes a dark turn as we realize that Adonis was responsible for Damian’s imprisonment in a mysterious way.
Damian’s vendetta against his childhood friend escalates with time and reaches a point where they have no choice but to sort it out in the ring.
After a dopamine-inducing trailer, Total Film has released new images of the two, and they look intense (to say the least)! Check them out here:
The images show the two leads clad in boxing gloves and ready for action. We know that they will face off against each other in the movie’s climax. But who is going to have the upper hand?
The Rocky franchise has a long history of titular protagonists facing unexpected defeats. The franchise’s first film set the stage with Rocky losing to Apollo Creed, though Rocky 2’s rematch set the records straight.
Similarly, Rocky 3 saw Sylvester lose the title to Clubber Land before regaining it in the climax. This trend has continued in the following films of the franchise too.
The Creed films follow in the footsteps of Rocky. In the first installment, Adonis defeated Leo Sporino but lost to current world champion, Ricky Conlan.
Creed 2 marked his redemption as he defeated Danny Wheeler to win the World Heavyweight Championship and went on to defeat Viktor Drago twice.
Creed 3’s trailer shows a rematch between Adonis and Ricky Conlan. In all likelihood, Donnie will defeat Ricky, setting him up for a famous defeat against Damian.
This will sync with what the creators have said about the villain being hard to hate in Creed 3. Damian Anderson is not a typical villain. He will have a backstory and will have his reasons to hate Adonis.
These are all conjectures, though. Given the nature of the franchise, it is tough to predict the fight’s outcome.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait much longer as the movie will hit theaters on March 3, 2023.
