The Suicide Squad: New Images See Cast Members On A Mission

New images have been released for James Gunn’s upcoming film The Suicide Squad. As a standalone sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad, the movie will see the return of Belle Reve’s imprisoned convicts on a destructive mission along with some newer additions to the cast.

Now ahead of its July premiere, Total Film has unveiled new looks from the film, including Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, John Cena’s Peacemaker, Sylvester Stallone’s King Shark, David Dastmalchian’s Polka-Dot Man, and Daniela Melchior’s Ratcatcher.

The pictures depict the group seemingly spying on probable enemies and also making a surprise appearance on them.

In the latter, Ratcatcher Two is seen with a rat on her shoulder, which amused many fans. Director James Gunn later responded in a Tweet, saying the rodent would serve as her sidekick and is named Sebastian. He was played by two different rats, one of whom Gunn chose to call Crisp Ratt to poke fun at the Guardians of the Galaxy star. Check out his tweet here:

Another image shows Ratcatcher and Bloodsport in the aftermath of what could be a grimy operation. The last image, which is a behind-the-scenes,  includes Elba and Gunn filming on set.

The sequel will bring back characters like Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag, who were previously featured in the first film. However, David Ayers’ version received a lot of negative criticism. Thus Warner Bros. replaced him with Gunn after the former left the job to develop a Gotham City Sirens film.

The upcoming film will see the notorious squad on a quest to destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory. An official trailer was released last month, which looks promising, and along with a wackier Harley Quinn and a goofball Peacemaker, it sure seems like a good trip. Check it out here:

Besides the main characters, the movie is also set to have an ensemble cast in various roles. Among them is Pete Davidson, Viola Davis reprising her role as Amanda Waller, Nathan Fillion, Alice Braga, and Taika Waiti in a yet undisclosed role, among many others.

Following Warner Bros.’s new pandemic norm, The Suicide Squad will be released both theatrically and on streaming service HBO Max simultaneously on the same day. Director James Gunn announced in February that his reboot was “fully finished” and good to go and that the production company had not tampered with his creative controls in any way.

The movie is scheduled for release on August 6, 2021.
