Halo fans have received a lot of multiplayer gameplay showcases for Halo Infinite, but it’s been a while since anything of the campaign was shown. This changes now. 343 Industries has put out a new trailer that provides a thoroughly new look at Infinite’s campaign and what players can expect when stepping into the boots of Master Chief once again.
Halo undoubtedly had a massive influence on competitive FPS multiplayer games on consoles in the 2000s, but the story has always been important in the series. Be it the tagline “Finish the fight” from Halo 3 or the “Hunt the Truth” slogan from Halo 5: Guardians, the single-player mode has been just as important and exciting as the multiplayer.
Halo Infinite’s campaign was first revealed during the summer of 2020, but the backlash it received was the cause of the game’s delay to 2021. We’ve come a long way since then, and fans have also had the chance to try out the multiplayer first hand. This has made the demand to know more about the campaign even greater.
343 has now released a new campaign overview trailer for Halo Infinite, making it the first significant update of the experience since 2020. Narrated by Jen Taylor, the voice actress for Cortana, the six-minute video is filled with new information about the single-player mode, new teases for the game’s story, game level structure, and other mechanics that may be exclusive to the single-player campaign.
The game will take place after the events of Halo 5: Guardians and six months after the UNSC’s defeat at Zeta Halo. Mast Chief is searching for Cortana with the help of a new AI simply named “The Weapon.”
In the trailer, Halo Infinite’s campaign has been described as “the most wide-open and adventure-filled Halo experience yet.” Players can freely explore Zeta Halo, recapture Banished outposts, free UNSC prisoners, and call in vehicles at a moment’s notice.
For the first time in Halo history, players will be able to upgrade equipment like the Grappleshot and the Drop Wall by using Spartan Cores in a special skill tree. This is going to open up combat significantly.
Speaking of which, combat has been enhanced featuring boss battles with health and shield bars, new enemies such as Skimmers, and clashes with a rival Elite currently known simply as “Spartan killer.”
This new trailer should definitely help quell some fans’ queries regarding what they will be getting besides the multiplayer experience. The amount of freedom players will be given in the campaign has never been seen before in a Halo title. The open-ended level design Halo Infinite is going for should help boost the game’s longevity.
