Detective Conan films have now become an annual event, with the franchise producing a new one yearly. After ‘The Bride of Halloween’ this year, the franchise is ready to hit us with another one in 2023.

As announced previously, the new film will be out during Golden Week next year. A teaser visual for the franchise’s 26th anime film, ‘Detective Conan: Iron Submarine’ confirms its debut on April 14, 2023.

Considering the previous film had an epic finale with an unexpected plot twist, this one will have the same or something better. The last movie was so good it raised fans’ expectations, and the visual proves that the staff has planned something similar for this one.

The visual features all the main characters from the anime, with Conan saving an unconscious and drowning Ai Haibara. Its tagline translates to ‘don’t die Haibara,’ which confirms that Ai will be the film’s primary focus.

For those who don’t know, Ai Haibara is the creator of the APTX 4869 poison that shrunk Shinichi Kudo into Conan Edogawa. Ai is a victim of the poison herself, as her real name is Shiho Miyano, and she took the drug in an attempt to kill herself but was shrunk too.

Ai is a former member of the Black Organization but left it after finding out they’re responsible for the death of her sister Akemi and probably the demise of her parents too. She is now a member of the Detective Boys and helps Conan put an end to the vicious criminal syndicate.

Looking at the visual, the whole thing will tie together at the end, with the culprit being the Black Organization. It also features the FBI agent Shuichi Akai, hinting that he will have a significant role in this film.

Since the film is centered on Ai, the plot will definitely dig more into her past and trauma. They are also bringing Akemi’s ex-boyfriend Shuichi into it, signifying how this will connect to Ai’s sister’s death.

As much as I’d like to contain my excitement for this one, I can’t in this case because the film already looks thrilling and promising.
