DCU’s journey for 2022 ended with Black Adam, but they have much more planned for the upcoming year. One of the awaited films is the debut of Jaime Reyes and his Blue Beetle, which just got a confirmed release date. DC Comics just shared a new artwork with a detailed look of the neon Blue Scarab and confirmed that the film will be out on August 18, 2023.
For those of you who are out of touch, the film will be Jaime Reyes’ entry into the DCU. He turns into a superhero when an alien blue scarab grafts onto him and gives him an exosuit with all sorts of badass powers.
DC Comics shared the new poster with the confirmed release date on Twitter, and you can see it below:
The film, at first slated to make a streaming premiere on HBO Max only, secured a theatrical release in December 2021. With the Blue Scarab on the poster and with little information about the film’s plot, we have two working theories on how the Blue Scarab works.
In the comics, the scarab was first introduced as an alien technology sent to parts of the universe to recruit more beings for the Reach. But in future issues, the Blue Scarab was said to be magic, and Ted Kord and Jaime had tried to understand its origins in the comics.
We don’t know which version the film will pick, but since the film has the Kord Industries and Reyes in one setting, we are putting our bets on the magical element.
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what exactly the Blue Scarab is and how Jaime manages to use it on August 18, 2023.
Damn! No streaming services found :/
