A brand-new clip for Marvel’s Black Widow has addressed the absence of the Avengers in the upcoming Phase Four movie.
The long-overdue film is finally headed towards release and will follow Natasha Romanoff’s walk down memory lane as she reconciles with her Russian family to take on enemies from her violent past.
With promotions ongoing, Marvel Studios is making it one of their top priorities to ensure the movie remains in the public eye until its July 9 release simultaneously in theatres and on Disney+ via Premier Access.
Keeping in line with that, Marvel Entertainment released another teaser clip yesterday.
Titled “Got This,” the TV spot looks at some of the most adrenaline-charged shots from Black Widow.
Amongst them is one which features Natasha (Scarlett Johannson), Yelena (Florence Pugh), and Red Guardian (David Harbour) aboard an aircraft where the latter pokes fun at Natasha by saying, “You should’ve brought the Avengers.”
This, comically enough, earns him a punch to the face by Yelena, who is clearly against the idea, or could just be protecting her sister’s honor. Check out the video here:
Considering its place in the MCU timeline, the Avengers’ exclusion from Natasha’s standalone film makes sense.
Since Black Widow takes place following the events of Captain America: Civil War, it harks back to the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes scattering after the Sokovia Accords fallout.
This gives Natasha the perfect opportunity to deal with her own problems as she has no responsibility towards the others so far.
Furthermore, bearing in mind that Black Widow delves into her past before joining S.H.I.E.L.D. and eventually becoming an Avenger, it is understandable that she would want to deal with it alone, given the lone wolf she is.
However, Natasha’s abandonment by her fellow teammates seems a bit unfair, especially since she helped them out during their solo endeavors.
But with rumors circulating about Robert Downey Jr.’s appearance in Black Widow, the hopes of Tony Stark helping her out can then be kept alive.
Moreover, Red Guardian’s remark also confirms the Avengers’ global fame, which hints that irrespective of having abandoned her first family, they remained aware of who Natasha was hanging with.
As sweet as that may be, Marvel’s Black Widow is bound to be an emotional rollercoaster bidding the final farewell to an O.G. Avenger of long.
