Studio P.A. Works has worked on a lot of anime projects like Uma Musume Pretty Derby, Akiba Maid War, and the recently-aired Buddy Daddies. While the studio has worked on adaptations like the current Skip and Loafer series, most of their work has been original.
The studio has now revealed a new original anime project, a full-length film. Titled Komada – A Whisky Family (Komada Jōryūsho e Yōkoso), the film will premiere in November 2023. The Japanese title means “Welcome to the Komada Distillery”.
Firstly, the video shows four other titles – Hana-Saku Iroha, Shirobako, Sakura Quest, and The Aquatrope on White Sand. These, including Komada, are a part of the “Workplace” series. The video then shows footage from the new film, where the main character Rui tries to revive her family distillery.

The film will also have a special screening at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The festival will be held in the French town of Annecy from June 11 – 17. It will be a part of the Contrechamp category, which was added in 2019.
The Contrechamp category also replaced the Out-of-Competiotion category the same year. Films in this section also compete. Komada was selected for its careful and documentary approach toward the characters and process behind whisky production.
Komada – A Whisky Family will be about 90 minutes long and will be directed by Masayuki Yoshihara. Yukito Kizawa and Munemasa Nakamoto are working on the screenplay and have previously worked together for Monogatari and Sword Art Online series.
Tomomi Takada has created the original character designs, which have been adapted by Kousuke Kawazura for the film. Kawazura also acts as the chief animation director. The music is composed by Tatsuya Katō.
The voice cast and staff are impressive, to begin with. In addition to that, I have never heard of a story about a liquor distillery business. The animation looks nice. Overall, it checks off everything that a good anime film should at least have.

Komada – A Whisky Family (Komada Jōryūsho e Yōkoso) is an original anime film by P.A. Works. It is planned for a theatrical release in November and will also compete at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival (Contrechamp category).
News reporter Kotaro visits the Komada Distillery for a project on Japanese craft whisky. The distillery is led by the young Rui Komada, who took over the business after the death of her father.
As she deals with the aftermath of a natural disaster, financial challenges, and family issues; she tries to revive her family’s signature whisky Koma, which they stopped producing years ago.
