Amazon shot for the stars when working on their MMO New World and unfortunately fell quite short. The game was riddled with technical and community issues from the jump. While the devs have been doing what they can to fix the problems, every update seemed to add to the list of existing issues.
Even the endgame content was not enough to keep players around. But it seems Amazon is pressing forwards as they have just revealed the 2022 roadmap for New World.
The Heart of Madness update has been live on the public test servers for a while now. The update’s official release will mark the end of the game’s main storyline and add a new endgame expedition called Tempest’s Heart. It also brings the Blunderbuss weapon, PvP arenas, and a PvP reward track.
Later during the Summer season, players can expect a new endgame expedition called Barnacles and Black Powder. Not much information is known about the update, but the key art and name suggest that it would have a pirate theme. This expedition will be paired with a feature that will help players find a group for the expeditions and a Summer event as well.
A lot of content has been planned for the Autumn season. A new territory to explore will be made available named Brimstone Sands, a new endgame expedition titled The Ennead will be added, and a new Greatsword weapon will be available.
Leaderboards will join these for PvP and PvE-related activities and two seasonal activities – Nightvale Hallow and Turkulon 2022.
Along with this, 2022 will also see “New Mutators, Quests, Encounters, ongoing improvements, balance tuning, and bug fixing.”
While all of this content does sound exciting, it only matters if the game is in a playable condition. New World’s player base has dwindled significantly since launch, and the numerous bugs, glitches, and scams played no small part in this exodus.
It’s difficult to say whether the new content will be enough to lure gamers back into Aeternum, but Amazon is certainly hopeful.
