Netflix’s Japan Sinks to get Manga adaptation on Mangamo!

Netflix is one of the few OTT platforms that has been producing multiple original net animations of well know titles throughout the years.

There is a genre in anime that focus on natural disasters and captures the stories of people facing such situations.

Japan Sinks, a thriller science fiction novel series by Sakyo Komatsu that will receive an anime adaptation by Netflix on 9th July.

The staff for the subscription-based app Mangamo recently announced that they would be launching a manga adaptation inspired by the Japan Sinks 2020 anime in July.

Mangamo co-founder Yusuke Sasano commented that:

“The Japan Sinks: 2020 original manga on Mangamo reimagines the Netflix anime through a different lens that we hope will spark the imaginations of people around the world.”

To which manga producer Nori Ueki added:

“To produce the Japan Sinks: 2020 manga as well as the anime, I drew inspiration from the legendary original Japan Sinks novel to explore new and different story arcs and characters.”

The manga series will be created by a partnership between Mangamo, Comicsmart, and Avex. Mangamo has promised that the series will have weekly updates in July and bi-weekly updates thereafter.

Mangamo is a subscription-based mobile app that gives its audience access to ad-free, legally licensed content.

About Japan Sinks 2020

Japan Sinks or Nihon Chinbotsu is a disaster novel written by Sakyo Komatsu; he worked upon it for a whole nine years. There’s also a sequel to the story which was published in 2006, talk of a third one is currently ongoing. Kodansha published the novel.

Based on the novel, a film by Shiro Moritani was released in 1973 only. It was also adapted as a television show in 1975, a remake in 2006, and now an ONA (original net animation) in 2020 by Netflix.

The anime fill focus on the events of a major earthquake that hits Japan shortly after the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Ayumu and Gou, siblings of the Mutoh household, begin to run with their parents far away from the unexpected chaos.

In the face of this dreadful reality, the Mutoh family tries to understand things and stick together, supporting and caring for each other in these disastrous times.
