Netflix’s Godzilla: Singular Point Anime Reveals New Look of The Monster!

Godzilla is that one monster movie series that everyone can watch and enjoy. Netflix unveiled a new Godzilla anime back in October 2020. The series received a trailer in the same month, teasing the classic monster on Netflix.

The official Twitter account of the Godzilla Singular Point anime released a new visual teaser of the monster recently. The anime is scheduled to release on Netflix in April 2021.

The tweet mentions how the new Godzilla design is the one that no one has ever seen. The anime is a handrawn/C.G. hybrid.

“Happy new year. In 2021 this year, the T.V. anime series “Godzilla S.P. <Cingula Point>” will finally start broadcasting on T.V. from April and will be exclusively distributed worldwide on Netflix (preceding Japan). Please look forward to #Godzilla S.P., a new Godzilla that no one has ever seen.”

the English translation of the tweet posted by the official account.

The trailer also shows some of the classic monsters from films like Gabara, Rodan, and Anguirus. A water monster also appears, which could be Titanosaurus, according to fan speculations.

Apart from glimpses at these monsters, very little is known about the plot itself. Godzilla’s persona in the anime is on the mysterious side too.

If visual is any hint, I would say that Godzilla looks.. scary. The new Godzilla is designed by Eiji Yamamori, the animator at Studio Ghibli, so we know that it will be impressive. The new design is distinctive and rightfully a “never-see-before,” but it still has a classic approach.

The new visual is red-themed, much like the first image used to promote Godzilla Singular Point. Even in the teasers of the anime, the monster is surrounded by red mist.

“The completely new TV anime series “Godzilla SP <Cingula Point>” that started broadcasting in April 2021 #Godzilla SP, the monster design was done by numerous Studio Ghibli works such as “Princess Mononoke” and “Spirited Away” by Animator Eiji Yamamori.”

Apart from the anime, Godzilla vs. Kong is scheduled to release in theatres and on HBO Max in a few months. 2021 seems like a good year for Godzilla fans all over the world.

This new-look of Godzilla looks similar to the traditional Godzillas that we grew up watching. The art kind of reminds us of the tailed beasts we saw in the Naruto series, but much fiercer than that.

Let’s clarify that this new series is unrelated to the previous Godzilla trilogy that has premiered on Netflix. The trilogy consists of:

  • Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters
  • Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle
  • Godzilla: The Planet Eater

Godzilla Singular Point anime surely looks promising, but the big question is how well written the storyline is, and if it will manage to stand out from the other masterpiece Godzilla films and series.

About Godzilla

The concept of Godzilla emerged from the 1954 film by Ishiro Honda. It was then featured in films by TOHO.
