Cowboy Bebop’s Spike, Jet Black And Faye Team Up To Fight… Trees?!

Netflix Geeked has released a teaser clip of Cowboy Bebop ahead of its premiere on the streamer today, November 19.

We’ve seen part of the clip in the trailer before, but the full version does give us better context on Spike, Jet Black, and Faye’s relationship. Watch now:

Spike and Jet Black exchange a little back and forth, mentioning how Spike has been down in the dumps for a while. Faye marches in wearing a red dress and an equally bloody bullet hole through her shoulder.

She tells the guys that they need to team up in order to stop three eco-terrorists who are releasing a gas that can turn people into trees. Faye, of course, is only personally invested in it because the “nutbags” also stole her ship.

We don’t know if this is the first time the three will team up for a cowboy mission, but given the conversation, they sure have been well acquainted with each other by this point in time. Plus, Spike and Jet Black seem pretty cushy.

As it is with most anime live-action adaptions, fans are very apprehensive about whether the ten-episode Netflix series will honor the canon.

Some are already pointing out Faye’s actions were out of character — She’d never ask the two to team up and would simply steal Spike’s ship to go off and retrieve her own.

Also… it’s difficult to tell if the humor the show was going for actually landed its mark. Viewers say that both the points could be a writing failure.

On the other hand, fans are really happy about Mustafa Shakir absolutely nailing it as Jet Black. Even his voice sounds exactly like his anime counterpart!

In my opinion, the show has a very slim chance of enamoring fans in comparison to the anime. But for those who don’t mind it as a light, nostalgic watch with a new flavor, can appreciate the live-action on Netflix.
