Netflix’s upcoming live-action version of The Sandman is one of its most highly anticipated series for this year on the streaming service.
Based on Neil Gaiman’s best-selling classic DC comic book series of the same name, the series was announced back in 2019. The central character – Dream of the Endless will be played by Tom Sturridge.
The Sandman was briefly featured in the Geeked Week promotional trailer, in which Gwendoline Christie first introduced the role of Lucifer. The fantasy live-action series is set to premiere in 2022, with 11 episodes in its first season.
Now, through its Geeked account, Netflix has revealed that fans can expect an announcement of the release date for The Sandman during the event.

Based on Gaiman’s 1989 series, The Sandman follows the stories of the Endless, a family that embodies the many facets of the universe, such as Death, Desire, and Destiny. A 105-year occult ritual imprisons Dream of the Endless (Sturridge) before he emerges in modern times to restore his kingdom, the realm of the Dreaming.
The journey of Dream will also take him across various humans, occult detectives, and demons, including his all-powerful siblings.
Sturridge will be joined by Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, Kirby Baptiste-Howell as Death, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, and Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer, a role previously played by Tom Ellis in Lucifer.
While Netflix has confirmed that the release date will be revealed during Geeked Week, it’s also possible they will release new images of these characters. In addition, brief glimpses were already shown in the Geeked Week trailer, so it’s likely Netflix finally debuts The Sandman’s first trailer in the coming days.
Sandman has had a long journey from its way from pages to the screen, with its earliest stages being dated well before Netflix joined the project in 2019.
As an incredibly popular comic series, Gaiman’s series was considered for a theatrical adaptation in 1991, with actors like Joe Gordon-Levitt and David S. Goyer taking part at various points.
With the reveal of the release date, fans are getting a step closer to seeing the Endless in action.
