Netflix has recently picked up the abandoned Max show, ‘The Tourist’, and has confirmed its season 2 release date.
Max was the primary distributor of the show in the USA. However, Max ditched the show after BBC announced season 2, leaving Max with no distributors in the US.
According to TV Line, Netflix has saved the show and will make it available for the US audience. The streaming giant has acquired the rights to distribute seasons 1 and 2 and set the release date for ‘The Tourist’ season 2 to February 29, 2024. This acquisition is a relief for the show’s fans because season 1 ended in a humongous cliffhanger.
‘The Tourist’ features Jamie Dornan, who wakes up in an Australian hospital with no memory of who he is. The entire story is a saga of him working backward to discover his true identity. Although there’s nothing novel about the plot, the series has gained the favor of critics because of its water-tight storytelling and unpredictability.
In season 1, the protagonist is able to find his true identity, Elliot Stanley. He also discovers that he worked for a gangster called Kosta before he ran away with $1 million in stolen cash.
Moreover, Elliot finds out that he’s caused several deaths while working for Kosta by forcing women to smuggle heroin. By the end, it seems like Elliot is too disgusted by his old identity to consider living any further. However, his friend, Helen, saves him and gives the broken man a second chance. It also hints at what is to come in season 2.
Therefore, season 2 will see the comeback of both Elliot and Helen, along with new additions to the cast, such as Conor MacNeill, Olwen Fouéré, and Francis Magee. We expect the new season to be as unpredictable and exciting as its predecessor. So, don’t forget to mark February 29 on your calendars!
