Netflix has greenlit a workplace comedy about the Los Angeles Lakers. The streaming service gave a straight-to-series order to a series set in the front office of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Elaine Ko will be the writer and showrunner on the series. Mindy Kaling is the executive producer under Kaling International.
As reported by Variety, the untitled, half-hour series is inspired by “the personal and professional dynamic between the family owners and front office team that together run one of the most iconic franchises in all of sports.”

Kaling recently co-created Netflix’s teen drama and comedy Never Have I Ever (2020). She is also the showrunner and executive producer on the series, which has its Season 2 debut on July 15.
Kaling has also acted in and written for the iconic American sitcom, The Office, and is currently working on HBO’s The Sex Lives of College Girls.
Ko is credited with being a writer and executive producer on the hit ABC sitcom Modern Family which ended its 11 years long run in 2020. Ko wrote a total of 28 episodes along with directing two episodes. Her other works include Family Guy and Do Not Disturb.
This is the second show about the LA Lakers after HBO ordered a drama about the ‘Showtime’ era Lakers of the 1980s back in 2019. The HBO show has assembled a star-studded cast, including John C. Reilly, Adrien Brody, Bo Burnham, and Hadley Robinson.
Netflix’s series will be a workplace comedy that will follow fictional team governor Eliza Reed as she navigates NBA ownership and family drama with her best friend by her side. Netflix has given the show a 10 episode order.
Casting details, title, and premiere date for the show are yet to be announced.
